About Z Download Manager
A free, open-source download accelerator built by a global community. Released under the GNU GPL v2 and translated into 24 languages.
Built by downloaders, for downloaders
Z Download Manager started in 2022 as a weekend project to fix one frustration: existing download managers were either closed-source, ad-supported, or didn't properly support modern browsers and 10 Gbps connections. Three years later, ZDM is trusted by 180,000+ active users across 90+ countries.
We are a small, distributed team of 6 maintainers and over 120 community contributors. The project is funded entirely by voluntary donations and sponsorships — never ads, never telemetry, never bundled software.
Mission
Make high-performance, secure, and privacy-respecting download management accessible to everyone — on every platform, in every language, for free.
Values
- Open source forever — GPL v2
- No ads, no telemetry, no bundling
- User privacy is non-negotiable
- Community-driven roadmap
Frequently asked questions
Yes — 100% free and open source under GPL v2. There is no paid "Pro" version, no in-app purchases, no ads, and no telemetry. We are funded entirely by voluntary donations.
Distributing as .zip allows the extensions to be sideloaded in any environment — including corporate networks that block the Chrome Web Store, air-gapped machines, and offline installations. It also gives users full audit capability before installation.
No. Z Download Manager does not collect, transmit, or share any personal data. There is no analytics, no crash telemetry, no "anonymous usage statistics". The only network traffic is your actual file downloads and update checks (which you can disable in Settings).
Translations live on our GitHub repository under /locales/. Fork the repo, copy en.json to your-language-code.json, translate the strings, and open a pull request. New translations are shipped in the next minor release.
HTTP, HTTPS, FTP, FTPS, and SFTP. Multi-segment acceleration works on HTTP/HTTPS and FTP. BitTorrent support is on the roadmap for v4.0.
